October 21st, 1997 The Magnet tour went just fine although I got bronchitis about 5 days into it. One nice thing about the tour was that I met a number of email friends! We played in Cleveland and made a mad dash to the Hall of Lame - I figured I should at least see it once! It was fine, the people were very nice, and I admit it was really nice to see our names in there. One complaint we all had is that while were strolling around they were playing DISCO over the p.a.---C'MON!!!!!!!!! I went into the studio 3 days before leaving for the tour and finished my "Girl Group" ep-- Be My Baby, Da Doo Ron Ron, Then He Kissed Me, and To Know Him Is To Love Him. Also finished new versions of Stickin' with You and Afterhours for a single. We had a good time and I'm real happy with the results. I felt like I was 19 again when I was "singing" them. I recorded at Casino Studio in Atlanta which is owned by Clay Harper-a local good guy! He charged me NOTHING!!!! Now any of you who know how much studios charge will know what a tremendous help it is to have free studio time. Clay is very much into music and sort of donates the studio to certain projects. Have you ever heard of such a thing? I sure haven't. So kisses and hugs to Clay. Phil Hadaway was the engineer/producer--my favorite! We had a few visitors during our stay, one of whom was most unwelcome===a little grey mouse. I bought mouse traps and Clay got the little shit! So--keep an eye on this page to see when these gems are ready for sale. Should be within a month. |
Let's see, do I have any local news? Well, we had a crime-ridden week here in Douglas. A restaurant burned down and underneath the structure they found the "fixins"--a torch and a tank of propane! A few days later some drug dealer was shot and killed at the Greyhound station. Lotsa action, hmmm? Paul Cady and his cameraman Dan came along for four Magnet shows. Paul is doing a documentary on me and they did some filming and interviewing and enjoyed some Devil Dogs and MallowMars! A couple of days after I got home I was surprised by a beautiful bouquet from Paul! We played in Athens, Ga. and saw a GREAT group. They're called Olivia Tremor Control and are truly WONDERFUL!! Really interesting and different. Im so damn sick of hearing bands that all sound the same and these guys were so delightful that I actually watched their whole set! I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER listen to opening bands, but this band was something else!! They have a CD and you should check it out. Of course they are much better received in Europe. Thats always the case---EVERYONE does better in Europe. Click here to find out about two upcoming releases...
